Basically there is a direct correlation between overweight cows and difficult births. In the first 6 months or so dont let them gain any weight and then for the last two months keep the weight gain equal to the fetus and birth tissue weights.

YOu can really feed them a low calorie diet than most people think. like free choice on two parts straw to one part alfalfa...sounds terrible but does keep them trim. right now you're a kind of stuck with the possible birthing problems...
