Message Title: grain for the bottlebaby

My vet has told me that generally animals like elk need to learn to digest grass and hay before they can develop the bacterial in their ruman(stomach) to digest grains. So I would wait a month or two before introducing grains...and do it after the calf starts to graze.
I think it is too early also to introduce water. I believe there are other discussions this month and last month that cover this. They really only need mother's milk or a replacer for the first month.
I have only had the pleasure of having to raising one calf on a bottle and it was a few years ago. So I will be the first to admit that I am not an expert. I await Antler333 to give my reply his blessing or curse.
